Malaika and her kids! | Malaika und ihre Jungen!

  Malaika and her kids!

For longer time Malaika stayed with her cubs in the north of the Maasai Mara. Three days ago the Matira crew watched the kids late afternoon, not far from Matira Bush Camp, without their mother while hunting. Apparently, the cheetah had separated from her kids. However, the independent hunters had no luck - the hunt ended without prey. After that they were walking around calling their mother. The day before yesterday Malaika appeared - she already seems to be pregnant again.

Encounter with a giraffe | Begegnung mit einer Giraffe

  Encounter with a giraffe

A video clip that do not need words. In a game drive two ladies and the Matira crew encounter a giraffe. The animal is obviously interested in the Jeep and women. The seals are tried, and the cameras are interesting. Just a shame that Humans are so shy. The animal with the long neck would have liked to take a closer sniffed at them ...

Rongai family together again | Rongai Familie wieder vereint

  Rongai family together again

As the Rongai Famlie has not been seen the last two days (after the incident with a buffalo herd, which killed a lioness), they are now together again.. The day before yesterday the Matira team saw Longface with a female lying under a tree - not far from Matira Bush Camp. Towards evening the females called the rest of the Pride loudly roaring, whereupon the entire family actually came together. The welcome was a great joy. The family of Long Face, with four females and five cubs, was together again. The lioness, which apparently died in battle with the buffalos was obviously the lioness who was known for her big eyes.

  Rongai Familie wieder vereint

Rongai Lioness died in a fight with buffalos

Sad news from the Rongaipride: The day before yesterday, the team of Matira met the Rongaifamily on game drive in Maasai Mara - four females, the cubs and Longface. At sunset, a herd of buffalos came closer and closer to the pride, the females brought the kids in a safe distance. Longface still remained at the same position for a while - but sadly later there was obviously an attack of Buffalos, one of the females died in battle.

Please crawl ... | Bitte kraulen ...

  Please crawl ...

Again, a sight for the gods. The Leopard rolls around and scratching the fur on the uneven ground. When looking into the lens, the photographer could get almost tempted to put down the camera and scratch the big kitten his belly. But if the view is meant as one? We think rather not ...

  Bitte kraulen ...

The sleep of lions | Der Schlaf der Löwen

Anzeige

  The sleep of lions

National Geographic Germany: All mammals need sleep. But why a lion is sleeping 13 hours, and a giraffe only 4.5 hours?

Jerome Siegel, scientist in sleep research, of the University of California explains: Animals have developed different strategies with which they conserve their energy and can avoid being eaten. Elephants, for example, are dozing only three to four hours per day. "Because they are so large, they need to eat most of the time," according Siegel. The mouse-eared bat in contrast sleeps most of the day - it saves power for a few hours at night, while they go hunting for insects. The platypus is able to sleep 14 hours per day: It feeds on crabs, true calorie bombs that last long. Another important factor is safety: animals resting while hiding, usually sleep deeper and longer than those who recover without protection and need to be alert at any time. But of course there are also those who doze anywhere, anytime. "Who would ever dare to disturb a sleeping lion?" Siegel questions.

  Der Schlaf der Löwen

National Geografic Deutschland: Alle Säugetiere brauchen Schlaf.
