Imagine a moment that you spend an evening at the bush, in a restaurant tent with the finest food and fine wines, outside crackles a fire and the savannah spoil the scenery with the sounds of the African night. The friendly and attentive service takes care of it that you lack nothing. Late in the evening you will act to end the day and go to bed - in a comfortable tent in the middle of Bush. Your adopted you from the social gathering and already is a traditionally dressed Maasai warriors ready to take you to your living tent by the Bush with a spear to the right and a vigilant eye, so that no predator complicates the way to your well-deserved sleep. This happened Juliane H. and her husband from Hamburg: "In the bush terrain in the Massai Mara lies the Matira Bush Camp, where I stayed with my husband two days and nights. The service was excellent, the food outstanding, we felt very comfortable. Our guide, who accompanied us on our individual safaris drive us to the places where we were able to successfully observe the animals of the savannah. After dinner accompanied us one armed with a spear Masai - from the restaurant tent over the river and a field - to our overnight tent for protection against wild animals. As you we walk throw in the dark even the occasional glance over his shoulder, but there was not a lion so we still live, because safety comes first at Matira Bush Camp ...

Vultures dying - research in the fight against time

Vultures dying - research in the fight against time For more than five years, the Matira Bush Camp supports research for the preservation of the lappet-faced- vulture in the Kenyan savannah. The shrinking population in twenty years is not only a threatening problem for the pan-African scavengers, but also for the whole ecosystem in the habitat of big birds. As we already wrote (http://matirasafari.blogspot.de/2015/09/the-consequences-of-vultures-dying.html), the impact of vulture dying is fatal - not only in the small nature reserve of the Maasai Mara. Even in India, Pakistan and Nepal, and even in Europe (predominantly in Spain), the vultures die. The reasons are varied in detail, but always due to similar causes: The vulture dies of human impacts on the environment. Carrion medicated oriented domestic animals, pesticides and other toxins that have found their way into nature are taken up by the animals and lead to organ damage or direct poisoning, which are ultimately responsible for the death. One might think perhaps that as a scavenger can tolerate a lot, but how long scale studies show, is exactly the opposite is true. Anthony Ole Tira, co-owner of Matira Bush Camp, (see photo left) strives addition to his work at the camp to active support of researchers (Peregrine Fund, etc.) and clarifies residents on: "We must not forget the responsibility we bear - with each intervention in nature, even before our own door. The whole ecosystem is a very sensitive organism, which responds to the slightest changes. " The radio-marking the lappet-faced- vulture in the Kenyan Maasai Mara helps researchers to track and understand the routine daily routines of animals. Thanks to the Transmitter they can watch the animals and better investigate documented her every move - in search of solutions for the
preservation
of the largest vulture on earth.
